Abus bike locks and visibility gear: choosing the right level of security
Abus was founded in 1924 in Volmarstein, Germany, by August Bremicker and his sons, who started out making padlocks by hand in a home forge. The company added its first bicycle lock in 1931 and has been a fixture in bike security ever since. Abus also makes helmets in other markets, but the Abus range we carry is focused on locks, chains and visibility gear rather than helmets.
Choosing a lock
A folding lock like the Bordo range packs down small enough to carry in a jersey pocket and is a reasonable choice for quick stops, while a chain or U-shackle lock (Steelochain, Goose, Ultra 410) is heavier to carry but harder to cut through, since thicker hardened-steel links and shackles resist bolt cutters and angle grinders better than thin cable locks. If you're locking up overnight or somewhere unattended, the heavier option is worth the extra weight.
Visibility
Beyond locks, we stock Abus reflective gear including safety vests (adult and kids' sizes), backpack covers, and the Lumino range of clip-on lights and reflector strips, useful for early morning or evening rides where being seen matters as much as the bike itself. The exact lineup here changes as stock turns over.
We stock Abus alongside the rest of our Cycling Accessories range.
