Cycling jerseys built for Australian summers

A jersey has three jobs on a hot ride. It moves sweat off your skin so evaporative cooling can do its work, it carries what you need without the load swinging, and it puts a layer between you and a sun that is stronger here than almost anywhere else people ride.

UPF is the Australian variable

Most technical jersey fabric gives useful UV protection through construction density alone, and the rating is printed on the product page where the brand publishes it. Very open mesh panels breathe beautifully and protect less, which is a fair trade on a shaded climb and a poor one on four hours of exposed Adelaide road. If you burn easily, look at a tighter knit through the shoulders, or add sun sleeves and keep the jersey light.

Fit changes what the jersey can do

A race cut is short in the body and close through the chest and arms so the fabric stays smooth at speed. A club or endurance cut adds a few centimetres everywhere and suits most riders on most days. A gravel or casual cut is looser again. Size on your chest measurement, and if you sit between sizes, go up for comfort and down for a race fit.

Pockets do more work than people expect

Three rear pockets and a small zipped valuables pocket is the standard, and the part that varies is the hem elastic. A weak hem sags once you load it with a phone, a tube and a jacket, and the sag pulls the whole jersey backwards. Load a jersey before you buy it if you can.

Fabric weight against the temperature

Lightweight open knits suit anything above 25 degrees. Standard weights cover 15 to 25. Below 15 you want a thermal fabric or a long sleeve jersey, and below 10 a jersey works best as a mid layer under a gilet or jacket.

Zips

A full length zip you can open on a climb is worth more in an Australian summer than any fabric claim. Short zips look cleaner and give up your main cooling control.

We stock jerseys from Castelli, Santini, MAAP, Pearl Izumi, Isadore, Velocio and Ostroy. Italian brands cut smaller than Australian sizing, typically by one size. Pair one with bib shorts and a base layer, or visit our Adelaide showroom to try the fit.

Cycling jersey questions

How tight should a cycling jersey be?

Close enough that the fabric stays smooth without pulling across your chest or riding up at the back when you reach the bars. A race cut is short in the body and tight through the chest and arms. A club or endurance cut adds a few centimetres everywhere and suits most riders. Size on your chest measurement, and go up for comfort or down for a race fit if you are between sizes.

Do cycling jerseys protect against the sun?

Most technical jersey fabric gives useful UV protection through the density of its knit, and brands publish a UPF rating where they have one tested. Very open mesh panels breathe well and protect less. If you burn easily, choose a tighter knit through the shoulders or add sun sleeves and keep the jersey light.

How many pockets should a cycling jersey have?

Three across the back plus a small zipped valuables pocket is the standard. What varies is the hem elastic. A weak hem sags once you load it with a phone, a tube and a jacket, and that sag drags the whole jersey backwards. Load the pockets before you commit if you can.

What size should I order?

Italian brands including Castelli and Santini run smaller than Australian sizing, typically by one size. Pearl Izumi and MAAP run closer to true. Each product page links the brand's own size chart. If you are between sizes and want a race fit, size down. For a layered fit, size up. Our Adelaide showroom carries most of our range if you want to try before you buy.

Can I try this on before buying?

Yes. Our Adelaide showroom at 122 Pirie Street carries most of our range and staff can fit you properly. Sizing across Italian and Australian brands varies enough that this is worth the trip if you are new to a brand.

How long does delivery take?

Orders start processing within one working day of your payment clearing. Australian orders of $100 or more ship free, and worldwide orders of $190 or more ship free. Express Post within Australia is $19.95, and orders placed before 4pm ACST go out the same day and typically arrive in 1 to 3 days. Helmets and shoes carry a shipping surcharge and are excluded from free shipping.
